This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving. We enjoy family time, turkey and the last throws of nice weather before the rain sets in. I am going to be putting my turkey in the oven shortly and look forward to spending the day with my children. It's a small group - but we enjoy it.
I took this photo the other day on my walkabout and thought it looked very thanksgivingy...
We didn't get to see as much of the filming of Reaper as we wanted to, but we still did get to see one scene. I have some pictures, which I will post as soon as I download them. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the "devil", but we did get to see Sam's scene being filmed, which was coolish.
I just got a phone call from the college and I have been booked for two huge blocks of time from Dec 15 to February 20. Basically, I will be teaching two entire chunks of the course all on my own, so won't just be sitting around doing nothing. This is such awesome news! I am really excited! I also have 4 half days booked in October and November, with the promise of more to come. This is just so perfect and couldn't have come at a better time. I am extremely broke at the moment, my rent has just been raised, so the extra income will be perfect!
The deck is coming along, and is almost finished! The flooring is all laid and the railing half done. At least now I can put my furniture back under the covered area. Pictures will follow.
Just had to share my good news!
Peace out!
It's a beautiful, beautiful day here in southwestern Canada. The sun is shining, birds are singing and my deck is getting closer to completion. I unpacked and put away 18 boxes of crap on Friday with Brenna's help and now have all Donna's medical supplies organized, and believe me there are enough to fit in a semi-trailer truck. Her summer clothes are put away and her winter ones all nicely settled in the new dressers I built as well. Everything is as it should be. I can again walk around my room without tripping on things and I even have a new mattress on my bed, so I slept decently last night! Wow!
More good news as well! On Monday, they are filming an episode of one of my favorite TV shows next door at the church - "Reaper". YEAH!!! (If you have never seen it - you should check it out. It's very funny. I love when they film so close and I can get down there and talk to the film folks. AND maybe I'll catch a glimpse of the devil - although they are filming at the church, so maybe he won't be in that scene. However, I'm pretty sure my favorite character SOCK will be there. It will be fun to go and check it out. I'll take some pictures if I can get close enough. The catering truck is usually set up in our alley - leastwise it was when the filmed the remake of "Carrie" and "John Doe" with heart throb Dominic Purcell...whoa baby he's HOT! They do a lot of filming around here, but it's nice when they set up close by and I can check things out.
On that note, I am going to go and make my Sunday phone call to my mommy and then try to get some work done before I go outside and enjoy the beautiful day.
Peace out!
Hey peeps! A quick update while I take a break from typing doctor speak!
This week has been super productive for me, so I MUST be feeling better. My visit to the doctor indicated that my TSH is indeed returning to more normal levels. YEAH! I am going to continue on the meds for another two months and then have another recheck just to see how things are going. Yoga and change in diet are definitely a factor as well, as I have lost many inches as well. YEAH AGAIN!
Yesterday I went to Costco to pick up my card and get my photo taken. God that place is so ginormous! I didn't buy anything but wandered around checking things out for my next shopping trip. Neil, Brenna and I are going on a "family" shopping day to buy in bulk and then divide them by 3. Sounds like a plan.
Then, I took a trip to Ikea to buy Donna two new dressers for her room so I can get her shiznit organized. That girl has so many clothes, nicnaks and medical supplies that somebody needs to organize her ass. That person - is me. Hopefully by next week there will be some order to her chaos and I can get everything OUT of my room that is supposed to go in hers! That will be triumphant.
Neil and Brenna were both over yesterday and were both full of interesting information. Neil showed us this super cool island, which is located off the coast of Africa that is older than Methusela and labeled "The Most Alien Place on Earth". It is super cool and a definite MUST see. Check it here:

On that note I am off to complete my day's work. Peace out!
Fortunately, things settled down somewhat yesterday, but were still hectic in that running around doing chores way. It was actually nice to get out on my own for a couple of hours, even though I was just buying groceries and running to the pharmacy. The weather here has been absolutely gorgeous and we are now getting the summer we never had! Temps are in the high 20's C, sun is shining and there isn't a breeze, so really it couldn't be much better. The south side of the deck is complete, so we are able to use it and it is amazing. They have done a beautiful job. I will take pictures when it is completely done and give you a boo. Now - I feel like I live in the penthouse. Before I just felt like I was in a crappy top floor apartment with roof access. I count my lucky stars daily for having found this amazing place to live!!!
Donna and I have been watching "The Wire" on DVD this past week and really loving it. We watch WAY too much TV, but sometimes you do find something worthy! HBO has some good shit! We are now totally addicted and will have to buy the whole series.
I had my lab work done about 2 weeks ago for my Hashimoto's, but have not yet been to see the doctor due to Donna's surgery. However, this afternoon I finally have an appointment so we shall see what my tests showed. I can't really tell how I feel right now, as I have been running on autopilot for the last 10 days so probably not the best time to go in. However - if the meds were not working at all, there is NO WAY I would have been able to get through last week.
This is totally random, but just popped into my head. I took my knitting and my Ipod to the hospital with me and after doctors and nurses finally let us be for the day around 5 or so, I would sit on my bed with my knitting and plug in my music. Ahhhhhh.....totally relaxation and mindless drifting. Thank God for Jimmy Page and the boys as Led Zeppelin got me through some Good Times, Bad Times......
WOW! Today has been just like a three-ringed circus around here. I have had so many people in and out of here today I am tired and it's only 4 in the afternoon.
My day started with the "cable guy" this morning at 8 as our satellite cable was cut during the deconstruction of our deck while we were away at the hospital, and we have had no TV since. Trust me, when Donna is recuperating from a surgery and can't do much, TV is a definite necessity. After an hour, he finally found the problem after much running around out on the roof and in and out of all rooms, but happily we now have TV again. At 10:30 the caregiver arrived, talking on her phone as per usual and didn't stop talking until 12 when I gave her the hairy eyeball! At noon my ex-brother-in-law and SIL arrived for a quick visit with Donna. They left around 1:45 and at 2 the community health nurse and dietitian arrived to check on Donna and go over a few things with us. What a day! In between I have had to make phone calls, track down medical equipment, unpack Avon orders that arrived while we were away with no hope of getting any work done. In the midst of all this in and out, the front deck is being taken apart so there is a lot of pounding, sawing, and talking going on outside. I will be happy when things calm down here a little bit.
I need a Zen moment or two to quiet my running mind!
Tomorrow should be quieter, and hopefully I will have time to run out and buy a few things for us to eat as there are pretty slim pickin's in our kitchen! For now, I am going to go outside, close my eyes and enjoy the sun for a few minutes before I have found more chores to occupy my time.
Peace out!
So with the last SNAFU of EFX2 I finally decided to get the hell out of Dodge. I was not going to start up yet another place to write, but there are so many familiar faces here that I decided I would give it a go. I have no idea how to do anything yet, and it will probably take me a while to figure things out - but here I am.
Whoever was keeping up at efx2 knows that Donna was going in for surgery last week. It did not go well people and in fact was pretty hellish for my baby girl. The "conscious anesthetic" did not take and they could not give Donna enough sedation to make her fall asleep without risk so she felt the whole brutal procedure. The cut of the knife and the insertion of the PEG with pain so intense she has never felt anything so horrible. I'm sure it will torture her for years to come. They even called me into the procedure room to be with her. I'm glad I was there for her, as I am not sure she could have done it alone. Afterwards they gave her 9 mg of morphine to help control the pain, but she still could feel it. When she returned to her room, the nurses proceeded to give her codeine, and some Gravol for the nausea, but she was still feeling pain and it was all very traumatic. Tuesday night was hellish with her up dry heaving all night long because of the codeine so by Wednesday morning she felt pretty rotten. However, as the week progressed she did improve and the nausea vanished and the pain is now tolerable. We returned home on Friday and today was a pretty good day for her with her tolerating her new liquid diet and also eating more actual food than she's eaten in days. Here's hoping she can get her weight up, as when they weighed her at the hospital she clocked in at a whopping 67.5 pounds! Not enough for someone who is 5'9"! All going well, she should start upping her weight in no time.
Other than that - I am exhausted. The week off work was great and it felt good to be away from the computer, but I didn't get a hell of a lot of rest.
All in all I am glad I found a new place to hang my hat with lots of familiar faces. This is a good outlet for me!
Peace out!
